Speculation is swirling about the future of John MacLean and if he will even make it to halfway through his first season as the Devils' coach.
The Devils are 8-17-2 and have the second-worst record in the NHL behind only the Islanders. General manager Lou Lamoriello has a history of having a quick trigger finger and captain Jamie Langenbrunner knows something could happen. Langenbrunner, though, believes Lamoriello should shake up the roster rather than fire MacLean.
"I think we all know Lou well enough that something is going to happen and deservedly so," Langenbrunner said. "I would hope [firing MacLean] is not the angle. That doesn't deserve to happen."
The Devils have had major struggles on the road recently, losing their last seven in a row away from home and scoring just six goals in the process. Furthermore, the Devils have scored just 50 goals in their 27 games and have a goal differential of minus-31.
