Displaying pretext
One game past the midway point of their schedule, the Rangers are 24-15-3 and sixth in the Eastern Conference.
The Rangers are also six points ahead of their pace at this time last season, one in which they failed to make the playoffs. Thus, they are optimistic about their chances of getting to postseason play this season, though also realistic.
"I like what we're capable of," center Brandon Dubinsky said. "It's a funny team. We're in the middle. We could either not make the playoffs or be first in the [East]. Right now, we're right at the fork. If we can find a way to bury our chances and to play consistently for 60 minutes and not just rely on the last 30 minutes, we can be dangerous."
That being said, the Rangers still feel they are better equipped to contend this season than they were last winter.
