It was a whirlwind of a day for the Philadelphia Flyers and their fans today, with two controversial blockbuster trades and a controversial major free agent signing. I'm going to briefly touch on what happened and the direction the Flyers are going in.
In today's NHL cap system, talent comes and goes in a cyclical fashion. You have three areas of talent:
1. Your players in their Unrestricted Free Agent (UFA) years, usually 27 years of age or older, being paid market value.
2. Your pre-UFA players, where you get the best bang for the buck in regards to contribution value relative to their cap hit.
