Throughout the season, the Boston Bruins have remained a consensus choice to vie for the Eastern Conference title in the Conference Finals. But might Henrik Lundqvist and the New York Rangers have something to say about that?

Chicago nearly set an NHL record with 25 consecutive games without a regulation loss to start the season, on their way to capturing the President's Trophy. Meanwhile, Detroit entered the postseason without future Hall of Famer Nicklas Lidstrom for the first time in recent memory, after squeaking into the playoffs. But with two division foes facing each other, a Blackhawks victory might not be a foregone conclusion.

The Los Angeles Kings have already had a tougher go in one round of the 2013 playoffs (falling behind 2-0 to the St. Louis Blues) than they did in four rounds of the 2012 postseason. But if the up-and-down San Jose Sharks are really the dominant club that dispatched the Vancouver Canucks with comparative ease, this could be a difficult test for the defending Stanley Cup champions.

Though only the third-seeded team in the East, the Boston Bruins ranked second in GVT for the entire league and featured the elite goaltending of Tim Thomas, who broke Dominik Hasek's save percentage record. But does all of that mean anything against the battle-tested Philadelphia Flyers, last year's runner-up
and more importantly, the team that came back from 3-0 down to ignominiously eliminate the Bruins?

The top-seeded Washington Capitals advance to the second round for only the second time in four postseasons. Can Bruce Boudreau's crew finally advance to the Eastern Conference Finals (and beyond?), or will Steve Yzerman's quickly-rebuilt Tampa Bay Lightning knock off yet another contender?

Preds' netminder Pekka Rinne posted the second-best Goals Versus Threshold (GVT) in the entire NHL this season. But can Rinne and a strong Nashville defense slow down the powerhouse offense of the Vancouver Canucks enough to make this a competitive series?

It's an epic matchup, between another Cup-contending edition of the Red Wings and perhaps the most intriguing incarnation of the Sharks, two veteran teams with narrowing windows of opportunity. Backstopped by competent but not elite goaltending, it looks like we'll be treated to a high scoring series.
