So Chris Kunitz scored his first goal in 19 games.
How is it possible to go on such a drought when playing regularly with Sidney Crosby? Kunitz has been overrated for a long, long time, with traits like “character” and “leadership” excusing mediocre point totals when taking into account the top players he’s been matched with at Anaheim and Pittsburgh. In my opinion, the challenge trade of Ryan Whitney for Chris Kunitz frankly came up a clunker for both teams.
Gabe Desjardin’s Behind the Net website shows Kunitz with the highest Quality of Teammates for the entire Pittsburgh squad, and 20th in the NHL. Of those 20 players, only one had a lower +/- than Kunitz’s +13 (Mike Knuble at +4).
